Anna Thompson and Valerie Lemieux had the pleasure of talking with Ande Stanley on her podcast "The Adoption Files" about what adoptees are trying to achieve here in Michigan. This was a new experience for both Anna and Val, but the work we are doing in Michigan is worth talking about.
In our interview we talk about creating a place that is welcoming to both international and domestic adoptees, and our work of trying to change the narrative society holds about adoption as being only a win-win, without recognizing the challenges and nuances that most adopted people are all too familiar with. We talk about working together and how it can only strengthen our voice and our capacity for understanding one another and help to create a community we would all like to feel a part of. Adoptee Rights is not a singular issue, it is a struggle we all share.
